Thanks and Upcoming events
Thank you thank you thank you to all the wonderful women who have responded to my request for help, I really appreciate it.
I now have fantastic women in Dublin, Belfast and Galway interested in hosting dinners over the next few months. If you would like a dinner in your city but aren’t comfortable with hosting / organizing it on your own, just e-mail me and let me know, we can still make it happen.
A handful of requests:
1) We are talking about doing a data-focused/citizen scientist/hacktivism dinner in Dublin. Are you a woman who works with data or visualisations? Are you a hacktivist? Interested in or working on your own citizen scientist project? We’re looking for you! Please send any info or recommendations on women data speakers to info@irelandgirlgeekdinners.com.
2) If you have other requests for topics or recommendations for speakers, please let us know by e-mailing info@irelandgirlgeekdinners.com.
3) If you’re on Twitter, you can now follow us at @irelandggd!
4) We’re putting together a few side events at local conferences like FunConf. The idea is just to give the ladies heading along to the conference a chance to meet other attendees before the event. If you organize a tech event in Ireland or Northern Ireland, or know someone who does, let us know and we’ll try and set something up for anyone who might be interested. It’s always nice to have some familiar faces at conferences!
We’re finalizing details now for the next Dublin event, so I hope to have that posted later on this week.
Girl Geek Dinner help
Hey everyone, it’s about that time: time to meet fellow girl geeks and catch up and network and chat.
So I’d like to organize some girl geek dinners for 2011 but at the moment my time is quite limited due to work. So I’m looking for a handful of volunteers to help schedule and organize and recruit girl geeks.
Are you a girl geek in Dublin? Galway? Cork? Belfast? Interested in meeting other girl geeks to talk tech, learn and share geeky interests? We could use your help!
I’ll be putting together a dinner for late March/early April in Dublin, but it would be great to spread out and share the geekery around Ireland and Northern Ireland, too. If you’re interested in helping, please e-mail me at martharotter [at] live.ie and let me know.
Thanks so much for your interest and help and see you soon at a Girl Geek Dinner!
Girl Geek Dinner event: Lets Talk About Mobile
Our next event in Dublin is schedule for April 15th. We’re doing a dinner in conjunction with the Science Gallery on Pearse Street, and the theme is mobile.
- What mobile devices do you use, have you used?
- What would you be lost without?
- Are you addicted to your iPhone or your Blackberry?
- Are you building any mobile applications or mobile versions of websites? How do you choose which?
- What’s the worst phone you’ve ever used and why?
- What one application do you use that makes your phone indispensible?
- If you’re in the market for a new mobile device, what do you care and not care about?
- What is foursquare, how is it related to mobile devices and work?
We’ll be covering all of this and more, so come with your favourite device and come prepared to ask and answer the tough questions around mobile today.
The Science Gallery is conveniently located on Pearse Street in Trinity College, and it’s very close to the Pearse Street DART station. You can view a map to the Science Gallery by clicking here: http://sciencegallery.com/find_us
